How often should african american women wash their hair?

I wash mine every week. I use to do it every two weeks but I would get a lot of hair breakage because of that. Now that I wash my hair once a week I never have dandruff and my hair breakage has subsided tremendously. It's really up to you. Some black women can wash their hair 2-3 times a week while others wait 2 weeks. It's really trial and error. You have to figure it out according to what fits your schedule. Make sure to always use conditioner because it restores the moisture in your hair which our hair needs. For more info check this web forum out. You can wash it as often as you want- either every day with conditioner only (called a co-wash), every 3-4 days with shampoo and conditioner, once a week, or bi weekly. Be sure to always use a conditioner to restore lost moisture after you shampoo. If your hair is not oily then it's not necessary to wash it everyday with shampoo nor is it "eww" to not wash your hair everyday. Many whites as well as blacks do not wash their hair every day. Afro textured and curly hair tend to be more fragile and drier than straight hair and shampoos usually contain harsh ingredients such as sodium laureth sulfate that not only get rid or dirt but also strip the hair shaft of the hair's natural oils. If you want to wash often choose a non-SLS shampoo or do the conditioner only wash.

you kind of have to experiment with it to see what's best for your hair. I shampoo and deep condition mine weekly. But since i work out i co-wash almost daily. I wouldn't suggest using shampoo more than once or twice a week though it can be very drying to your hair

Women of color should wash their hair every 10-12 days. The reason why over shampooing causes our hair to loose their natural oils.
