I am an african american with very short hair and i wanted to know what would be the best relaxer fo

This best(at the store relaxer) would be Motions or Organic Root Stimulator.

Be sure to take proper care of your hair after your relaxer otherwise your hair could get extremely dry and brittle.

I am an African American female and I have nappy hair. I highly recommend you get a texturizer.

It would be hard to tell without looking at your hair - its texture, etc. You might want to try going to a really good hair dresser - at least initially and getting some advice (or having them actually do your hair). Then you can do the touch ups yourself if you are strapped for cash.

My hair is somewhat fine and soft - and contains a variety of kinky and somewhat looser curls. If I leave it natural and short - I can put gel in it and it will curl by itself. As it grows out it looks a lot more like a traditional afro, so if I want a curlier look, I use a texturizer once every few months. If you don't really want straight hair, but something that is a bit more curly, you might want to try that route. The best part is no curlers and you have a nice neat look as long as you keep you hair trimmed.

I've found that the best over the counter relaxer for me has been Gentle Treatment. I've tried Revlon (it was way too strong and just killed my hair) and Dudley (safe for my hair but made it way too straight). I've had mixed results with Optimum Care. But the best professional relaxer for me has been Mizani.

But everyone is different - so going to a really good hairdresser and getting a recommendation is probably the best bet.
