How do I spike my hair?

I have been dying to liberty spike my hair but I have african american hair so what gel would do the job? Should I straighten it first and should it be the max like a nine on the scale of one to ten for hold? thanx

How do I spike my hair?

My brother always spiked his hair growing up and the best thing that we found to make it stand so well is egg whites. Take the egg whites from the egg and use it as a gel it works every time and it washes out.

How do I spike my hair?

you should use gel any kind works

hey, i am black too

when i want to do cute styles

i use gel

How do I spike my hair?

well use super gel and sprits and I'm African American too and i use gel and sometimes gel and sprits.

How do I spike my hair?

Buy hair glue... it's in a yellow tube on the top shelf at WalMart. It's called Got 2 B glued.

How do I spike my hair?

my advice to u is don't wash your hair, straighten your hair, then tease your hair with a comb. then apply styling gel and bring your hair up with your fingers.

How do I spike my hair?

use Gorilla Glue it works the best.............................

Kinda hard to wash out though

How do I spike my hair?

old school punks and rudeboys used straight up glue. works like a charm.

How do I spike my hair?

no GLUE. Moose, holding spray, and a dryer

This will do the trick Have fun

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

Nope, not all of them. I am one that don't wear weaves. My hair is natural with no chemicals and it is very long.

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

Most of them and it is nice.

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

not all

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

African American women can get "perms" to straighten the natural curliness in their hair.

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

I cant say that ALL do because there are chemical processes that can straighten hair and make it more manageable, but all my friends who are African American (and dont go natural or have braids) have weaves.

They say it is easier to get a weave than it is to grow their own hair out since it is pretty course and curly and doesn't grow very long. Plus, the chemical processes available would tend to make the hair more brittle so that also doesn't allow them to grow their hair as long as they would like.

In my experience, any African American woman with straight hair past her shoulders has a weave. You would probably have to ask someone with personal experience in this area though, like a hairdresser.

Hope this helps.

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

My hair was waist length. Not straight....I never liked straight hair on me. My mother could sit on her hair when I was a kid, and my great grandmother who had thick wavy hair could stand on hers. Many Black Women have long hair. Some straighten it, some do not. Many White women with long straight hair (Paris Hilton) wear extensions.

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

The answer to your question is no. Some Black women grow their hair out and then either use perms to straighten out their hair or let their hair stay natural.

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

YES. Its called Malaysian Hair. Im a stylist.

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

no it depends on heredity, lifestyle and a number of many other things...most celebrities of all races use extensions or weaves because constant styling breaks off their own hair...look at paris hilton ,beyonce, nicole richie, jessica simpson, halle berry and quite a few more all use "weaves" when i was younger living in texas my hair was thick, wavy and to the middle of my back...i move to cali and it thins out and now goes to a little above my bra line... my great grandmother had hair to her butt...thick luxurious silver hair...not grey not salt and pepper but beautiful silver hair... it all depends

Are all African-American women with long, straight hair wearing weaves?

No, a few of my friends with beautiful long hair grew their own, and so did I. We never added fake hair to our heads.

How do I prevent curly hair from shrinking as it dries?

My daughter has naturally curly african american hair, I am trying to reduce the amount of shrinkage. Her hair is to the middle of her back, but shrinks to about 1 inch long.

How do I prevent curly hair from shrinking as it dries?

Braiding the hair in semi-large sections while wet and with conditioner should do the trick.. Or you can double strand twist it in thick chunks while wet so it can dry stretched out and shrink less...

As a mom I give you props for allowing your daughter to embrace her natural hair texture without chemical alteration.

Check out the site http://www.nappturality.com and visit the forums.

also there is lots of good info at http://www.motowngirl.com

Peace

How do I prevent curly hair from shrinking as it dries?

Try a cream that you put in your hair after you get out of the shower that minimizes body or volume. Preferably L'oreal.

How do I prevent curly hair from shrinking as it dries?

If your hair is naturally curly, not a lot you can do but use shampoo products to smooth your hair. A good smoothing leave-on smoothing creme and style as usual. And don't try to kill your curls, they are back in style!

How do I prevent curly hair from shrinking as it dries?

hmmm

How do I prevent curly hair from shrinking as it dries?

you don't all hair shrinks when it drys. sorry. try a heavy weight frizz controlling serum though

How do I prevent curly hair from shrinking as it dries?

TRY A MILD RELAXER

Should I chemically straighten my hair?

I am 19 with natural kinky african american hair. I've never relaxed or permed it, and right now I just wear it in a ponytail. Whenever I wanted to straighten it, I use a flat iron. Now, I'm thinking it will be easier to relax it. I've tried braids, but they make my hair fall out. Are there any other options I haven't thought of?

Should I chemically straighten my hair?

just remember if u do deciede to chemically straighten your hair , than u will have to keep up with it , that means u will have to probably relax it every 2 months or so...your best bet is to start going to salons interviewing the stylist or when u see a person on the street with a hair style u like ask them where they got it done...what products they use etc.. that is what i do... if u are in ny, i can recommend a few places...

Should I chemically straighten my hair?

Read some tips and articles on hair straightening on this site

Should I chemically straighten my hair?

There are people that can blow dry your hair really straight. I never had it done before but I heard about it from people who have. Just ask around about it.

Should I chemically straighten my hair?

It depends, are you wanting a new look, or you tired of flat ironing your hair? I'm in the process of letting the perm grow out of my hair so I can have a pretty afro! Sometimes perms aren't the best thing some peeps hair fall out or the chemicals may be too strong!

Should I chemically straighten my hair?

I know that being a Caucasian female that straightening my hair chemically is very harsh and if I am not mistaken your hair tends to break off easier. If I were you I don't think I would take that chance of having all that break damage done to your hair. I would consult a hair dresser on what is more gentler on the hair, a perm or chemically straightening it.

Should I chemically straighten my hair?

afro hair is quite thick i think so chemical straightening would be a good idea as it would thin it much

Does your hair have to necessarily be thick to have a cute bob hairstyle?

*african american hair only

Does your hair have to necessarily be thick to have a cute bob hairstyle?

bobs look good on any type of hair thick or not it is a classic hair style and f you want your hair to look thicker in a bob have them stack your hair a little this will give the appearance of thicker hair. hope this helped you from a cosmetologist

Does your hair have to necessarily be thick to have a cute bob hairstyle?

no it doesn't. i've seen an african american person in my school with that haircut, and they looked sooooo cute

Does your hair have to necessarily be thick to have a cute bob hairstyle?

In my opinion and from what I have seen in magazines and stuff, a bob always seems to look smooth and sleek on people who have fine, thin hair. You can always style it so that you get some volume in your hair if it is too thin.

Carol's Daughter vs. Miss Jessie's hair products what are your opinions on either?

I use Carol's Daughter on my natural hair. I have no chemicals in it at all. I want to start using Miss Jessies, so I can wear a natural bouncy curl. I have heard mixed reviews so far, what are your thoughts?

If you have not heard of, or used any of these products you do not need to reply. Though if you have suggestions for hair products please fill me in. This is for natural african american hair.

Carol's Daughter vs. Miss Jessie's hair products what are your opinions on either?

Well... I use both Carol's Daughter and Miss Jessie's ever since I "went natural" over a year ago. I love both products... and feel good about purchasing them from companies started by black women. (As for the price of MJ's.... I've always bought in December-- when they have their "Half Price" sale... I buy enough to last all year.)

Also, Miss Jessie's doesn't seem to work for everyone... My sister and I both went natural at the same time. But, apparently, I got mom's fine/wavy afro hair and she got dad's kinky/coarse afro hair. So when I bought MJ's for myself, I bought it for her too. When I use the products I get nice waves/curls and can just fingerstyle my hair, dry and go. Her hair has a lot more "kink" to it and she said it just didn't work for her... So, I hate to say it'll work for you and it might not.

What I recommend is ordering Miss Jessie's smaller sizes... they just came out with them... and test them out first.

The travel pack is $38.... this will allow you to sample every product they offer: http://missjessies.com/products.htm

In any case, Carol's Daughter is great too and my sis and I have fallen in love with all the moisturizers, conditioners, oils, etc.

Hope I've helped a little. :o)

Carol's Daughter vs. Miss Jessie's hair products what are your opinions on either?

Curly pudding is awesome for natural hair.. It gives it great texture and keeps it moisturized

GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY!

Best reasonably priced place in newyork for thermal reconditioning, rebonding, japanese hair straigh

Does anyone know of a place where i can get japanese hair straightening ( rebonding, thermal reconditioning) in ny NEWYORK? In or close to Longisland would be great..A friend told me someone at her office got it done from somewhere in Queens and was charged 150 $ only for amazing japanese straightening on her very long thick curly african american hair.. but she could not find out the name of the place..Does anyone know of a good place which charges about or less than 200 $ ?... or just any place which will give excellent results?

I have long very curly fine hair.. very dark brown with caramel highlights.. the condition of my hair isnt great so straightening with a blowdryer and iron damages it a lot plus takes up a lot of time.. i want super straight hair which can be dried naturally and will be low maintenance yet classy looking for office and job interviews etc.. THANKS!!

Best reasonably priced place in newyork for thermal reconditioning, rebonding, japanese hair straightening?

I have read that the japanese straightening is not recommended for african american or similar types of hair including hispanics. I wouldn't do it to my hair and I definately wouldn't pay $150 to have it done when the average price is between $600-800. Do some more research on the disadvantages of the straightening and what hair types it is best and not best for. I thought about it myself before but, not good for my/our hair!

You could also try the maxiglide straightener!

Best reasonably priced place in newyork for thermal reconditioning, rebonding, japanese hair straightening?

A beauty school will do the work for a fraction of the price of a regular salon. I found a site with a list of beauty schools in NY (link below).

Would this hair idea work?

i have african american hair, and it is 100% natural. that means i dont have a perm or anything. i've been thinking of some cute styles but im not sure if they'd work. the first style i was thinking was that i would get a straightener (tourmaline ceramic so little to no damage, plus using heat protectant cream), straighten my whole head, and then braid it into two big braids, then wake up the next morning and take the braids out. it would be wavy kinda like this right? http://z.about.com/d/beauty/1/0/8/H/curl... and then if i went to sleep with it wavy like that and then woke up and brushed it out really good with a brush like this http://www.cachebeauty.com/Isinis_brush_... it would straighten back out a bit right?

Would this hair idea work?

It's called a braid out. You can also achieve this without making your hair straight also. It won't look like the picture, but you'll have similar results but not as straight. Be careful with heat, it can cause damage.

Would this hair idea work?

sorry to burst your bubble, but the first one wont work no matter your hair type. Your hair doesn't get hot enough for it to make it wavey using braids when you get out of the shower, towel dry your hair, and put it in braids when it is still damp and go to bed with them in, then in the morning they will be wavey.

Black hair...HELP!?

I have blonde, African-American hair, a little less than shoulder length. I'm looking for some tis on how to keep it straighter, and less puffy, longer.

Black hair...HELP!?

A flat iron works wonders. Use sparingly or risk hair damage.

http://www.folica.com/appliances/straigh...

Do be sure to use a good deep conditioner and a silicone hair serum like Frizz-Ease to cut down on frizz and weigh down the hair a bit. If you dye your hair and use relaxers (straight perms), your hair is probably already damaged, so go easy on it. African hair is not as tough as some women like to believe; on the contrary, it's quite brittle. Treat it kindly. Don't overexpose it to heat and chemicals or you'll just make it frizzier.

And invest in a good protein pack treatment to build the hair shaft up and minimize breakage. Do not use oils; these coat the hair shaft and prevent real moisture from penetrating. People who use oils get drier, more brittle hair in the long run. It's an old myth that needs debunking. Oil is not moisture.

Black hair...HELP!?

Why assume that her hair is bleached? Maybe it is, but races with straight hair aren't the only ones that can have naturally light or blonde hair. Report It

Black hair...HELP!?

try john Freda's frizz ease it really straightens after that i suggest you flat iron it after that

Black hair...HELP!?

Im guessing that its bleached so the puffyness may be because of the lost of moisturizer in the hair. I would recommened an oil product: only of pure oil and nothing more.

Black hair...HELP!?

wow thats awesome hair blonde har...neways...use relaxers iguess or get it done at the beauty place

How do you braid hair back in corn-rows?

My travel basketball season is just starting and I'm sick of putting my hair back in a ponytail. My cousin knows how to braid, but she's older and just got a job so shes always busy. I have thick, shoulder lenght african-american hair (if that helps).

How do you braid hair back in corn-rows?

Begin by making a part in the hair that neatly extends from the forehead to the nape of the neck. The part will have to be made somewhat at an angle because the area covered by your forehead is greater than that of your neck. If you can imagine, the cornrows will take on somewhat of a tapered look in the back if the parts are done evenly and correctly.

After parting the section to be cornrowed, secure the rest of the hair with a clip. Comb out the section to remove tangles. Beginning at the forehead, take a small portion of the section and divide it into two separate strands. Cross them.

For your third strand pick up some of the hair from the larger section and cross it over one of the other two strands. You now have the three strands necessary to cornrow.

The procedure is similar to braiding except you will be working your way down the section by continually adding hair from the larger section to each of your three strands.

Once you have reached the nape of the neck, braid the rest of the hair to the ends and secure with a rubber band. Part the next section and cornrow it.

How do you braid hair back in corn-rows?

my friends do each others hair.

but sometimes they get it done and it last all summer, They are much cooler, they have done mine but it is soft and straight

How do you braid hair back in corn-rows?

I think, for it to look right, you need to have someone else do your hair. Cornrows can be very time consuming to do but they look neat.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

This is so strange when I here that Ethiopians hates us African-Americans because they are African to but all africans have diffrent features and hair. Why they don't like us for, they have the same skin color as us, I think those people are white-washed or something.

Don't mean you have straight hair you not African, I'm light skin African-American woman and they darker then me. Ethiopians what's wrong with African-Americans/ ohter Africans.

"Helina G" I don't believe that girl is a Ethiopian because she sounds kinda racist to me. Who cares about Ethiopian people!!!!!!

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

1. I don't think it's fair to generalize because I know a ton of Ethiopians and they like me just fine. I've never had a problem with one and I never felt like I was being judged by one.

2. Why are you buying into the same mendacity that whites buy into thinking that all blacks have to like each other? We all come from different cultural perspectives and, frankly, we're not going to all get along. You don't have anymore in common with an African than the blond chick sitting next to you.

3. Stop assuming that everyone who doesn't care for what is perceived to be black American culture (they're learning about our so-called culture through the same mediums that whites are and don't understand that they're not applicable to the vast majority of black Americans because those are the only images they see just like a lot of whites) is "white-washed." This is one of the major problems with certain demographics of the black population. If the media distortions were the only thing that you knew, presumably, you wouldn't have much respect for us either. I know I wouldn't.

If you want to find your roots you can either do it the old-fashioned way, start with your grandparents and work your way back through marriage and birth records or you can do it the easy way and have your DNA analyzed.

Helina, if your ancestors were Arab why aren't you? I know you said the sun makes you darker but I don't see any Ethiopians "lightening up" when they get to the US nor do I see Arabs getting any darker than they've ever been and they share the same hot sun. You are African and you are black. I'm sorry if this is a blow to your psyche but Ethiopian is not a race, Arab is not a race. Arabs and Middle Easterners are considered white. As you're definitely not white, you're absolutely not Asian/Pacific Islander, and you're not part of the indigenous populations of the Americas, that only leaves one thing. Black.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

Whats wrong with you and this ethiopian stuff! I'm ethiopian and we do not hate blacks and we ARE African-Americans here in the U.S. We all come the same home continet why would we hate each other?!?!?! Report It

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

how you gonna say who cares about ethiopian people, and you ask all thEsE questions [if U DONT CARE...THEN STOP ASKIN ALL THEM QUESTIONS ABOUT US!!!]AND WE NEVER SAID THEIR WAS anything wrong with black people or we didnt like u people..what ethiopian u know that said that!?!?!..I THINK NONE!! Report It

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

Maybe it's for same reason that some African Americans/Blacks hate People from the West Indies or Jamaicans

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

Are you a troll?

Or are you starting some kind of trouble on the internet?

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

You cannot generalize all Ethiopians in Hating African-Americans. One might but it is simply unfair to say all of them do. Besides, I know some Blacks deny it but if slavery never happened we would be in Africa.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

SInce I am a generally happy person and surround myself around good natured people black, white or whatever I do not come across this phenomenon but I have often heard of its silly nature.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

Hi! I've heard this once before, but I hope it's not the case that *all* Ethiopians hate African-Americans. Either way, I'm sure it's a really sensitive issue, and so I hope people who answer this will be sensitive about it.

I only actually heard about it once, and it was from a guy from Ethiopia, and he claimed the reason he was upset was that African Americans often celebrate what they call "African culture" but this guy says that most African Americans have never been to Africa and don't really know anything about African culture. (I'm not saying I agree with the guy; I'm just relaying what he said.) So that might be what it's about.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

they may not like the stereotypes about black people. i know many africans who hate black people because of that. and they as a people have the right to like whomever they choose. they don't have to like you, and what does it matter? you aren't african anyway. your distant ancestors were, but you don't even know what country they came from and you are a mix b/w different african ethnicities, white and native, so you are not the same as them. and most of all you are american, but like i said it doesn't matter, people will not like for whatever reason, but that doesn't mean that you should worry about it.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

Wasting your time trolling.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

THAT IS NOT TRUE!! Only some are like that, Just like SOME Africans Americans dislike blacks(which is dumb I know) I just let them waddle in ignorance, and let them be.

Seetheworld

You finally got, it YES she is a troll.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

I think that the same misconceptions that exists between races exist within races. Mostly because what color you are means absolutely nothing. But most of my African friends think that US Blacks are lazy, uneducated and unmotivated and site the same stereotypes that have plagued African Americans for centuries. And of course like everyone else they also disregard the legacy of 300+ years of slavery - perhaps because many of their forefathers participated in and profited from the slave trade.

But the truth be told, the majority of the Africans whom have immigrated to the US are of a higher socio economic class then the average African American so a lot of what they display is pure classism.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

bch please...not today

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

There is nothing wrong with African americans although u are an exception.

Im an ethiopian woman and ive yet to meet an Ethiopian that doesnt like African Americans. If anything they want to be just like them. sick i know. But Maybe some are scared because of the stereotype of gangsters and hoochie mamas and what not.

Anyway i hope u educate u're self before asking anymore stupid questions.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

American blacks are rightfully viewed as lazy, irresponsible, violent cowards who are too fearful to return to their own native home lands and take responsibility for their own culture, and continue to live as parasites in America.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

Well if your in Atlanta and in Dekalb county!..Yes alot will not speak to you if you African American! Not all but alot but I quess its just a cultural thing!

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

That is not true. Have you talked to all Ethiopians to reach that conclusion and back your accusations up? Probably not. Yes, some may dislike black Americans because of the clashes in cultures and lifestyles while other don't. It is based on the person. Secondly, Ethiopians may have a different bloodlines or slight variations but so do most African counties but their still Africans, so their is no need for separation. Because at the end of the day we are all the same.

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

I hate no one %26amp; I never heard of Ethiopians hating us...

How come Ethiopians hate African-American/Blacks?

Ok, Kelis people are starting to see what you're trying to do.

YOU are a typical example of what makes us stick together. You see when you attack a certain group they tend to stick together because they feel threatened by the foreigner ... whether it's his creed or clolour that makes him foreigner.

GET OVER IT. Change the subject. I'm not answering any more of your questions!

SO not worth the lousy points !! You're a trouble maker !

Cheers !!

Can I perm my hair?

I have african-american hair %26amp; well in december I bleached %26amp; dyed my hair with semi-permanet dye . It's coming out %26amp; I'm thinking of perming hair soon. Is it too soon ? or can I just go ahead and perm it?

Can I perm my hair?

When you said you bleached your hair I cringed. That's some serious damage you did to your hair. If I were you I would wait 3 months or so until you get it permed or else your hair will just break off left and right.

In the mean time condition your hair every week to restore the moisture.

Can I perm my hair?

Nooooo your hair will fall out if you do. Ask the person who does your hair. They would probaly tell you no.

Can I perm my hair?

yeah you can perm it if you want it to fall out! You should continue to allow your hair to repair and condition it. Try not to pun any chemicals in it it will make it worse. You should wait!!!

Can I perm my hair?

i would consider waiting a little while so your hair wouldnt get as damaged. but if you dont want yo wait i think that you should go for it.

best of luck

xoxo

Carlie

Can I perm my hair?

if u value ur hair...no.

if were just normal tint you cud, but cos bleach uses a slightly different process to lighten the hair compared to normal tints, perms and bleaching is a big no no.

if there is some slight movement in ur hair, you can try scrunching it with mouse and a diffuser...or if its str8 as nething, try using heated rollers or tongs to curl ur hair - jus make sure u use a thermal protection spray to help prevent ur hair getting damaged.

theres also these funny bendy foam sticks which you can use to curl with - wrap them round the hair when wet, let it dry and u can have spiral curls, similar to a set but no blue rinse or rollers used lol.

Can I perm my hair?

depends on what you look like

Can I perm my hair?

With all of that treatment to your hair the perm may not hold as well as it could.

To test at home if you should perm your hair is to take a glass of water. Put a chunk (NOT a huge chunk) of your hair in the glass, if it floats your hair is healthy enough to dye and perm, if it sinks that is a big no!

You can also ask your hairstylist if they think your hair would be okay to perm if it sinks.

Can I perm my hair?

some of you are FORGETTING she has black hair %26amp; black hair gets STRAIGHT when perming not curly. I'm not sure, with black hair, since youve bleached it %26amp; dyed it already %26amp; it hasnt falled out yet, I'm pretty sure you'll be okay, but if not I'd ask a hairdresser first.

Does it mean anything when an African American has blonde strands of hair instead of grey?

When I had a large afro my mom and sisters used to braid my hair and they told me how I always had blonde strands of hair even though my hair is always black or brown. I'm the only one in the family who has that and it's not hereditary.

Does anyone know?

Does it mean anything when an African American has blonde strands of hair instead of grey?

Maybe a few of your hair folicles lack melanin?

Does it mean anything when an African American has blonde strands of hair instead of grey?

sounds funny to me

Does it mean anything when an African American has blonde strands of hair instead of grey?

You know I do not know why this happens. That runs in my family. My aunt and my mom hair does that and so does my cousin you know that is a really good question. I guess it is one of the wonderful differences that we have.

How To Get Healthy Hair??

I have damaged my hair really bad!!

I Have african American Hair that can't be washed every other day......and I have a perm

How To Get Healthy Hair??

I'm an Afro American woman with a perm too %26amp; your right, don't wash it every other day. But, make sure your hair is clean %26amp; use a leave in conditioner that will restore moisture to the hair. Also, talk to your beautiican ablout other things you could do to restore your hair's health . Another thing you could do while your there is ask her to give you a wrap. There easy to take care of %26amp; after she takes it out of the wrap %26amp; stlyes it. You go home that night wrap it in the same direction she did and tie a scarf around it. When you wake up in the morning comb it outta the wrap %26amp; go. Plus, with a wrap you don't use heat. Heat, burns the hair which will damage it further.

Keep, it olied %26amp; get your ends cut every six week to get rid of split ends. Also, you could take a vitamin with zinc in it or buy zinc at your nearest health food store. Take it while doing this and you'll see results. Also, inbetween oiling I use Organic Root Stimulater's Carrot Oil. It prevents shedding and breakage and you'll see results in 5 days ! It works I use it on the regular as part of my hair care regemend. My hair is longer then it was before but I haven't reached my desired length yet. Its a slow process but you'll get great results.

How To Get Healthy Hair??

hmm i would get tresemme shampoo for dry or damaged hair (or something like that). also eat a healthy diet w/ grains fruits veggies and protien.

How To Get Healthy Hair??

If your hair isn't already naturally strong %26amp; you want really healthy, shiny hair then you shouldn't damage it with anything artificial (perm, straightening, hair dye) because that just creates ugly unnatural hair.

Try to get a trim to cut off those split ends, then get some vitamins for your hair (do some research), eat a balanced diet, and finally, use shampoo %26amp; conditioner that works to make your hair stronger rather in addition to cleaning it (i think pantene is the best for your hair.)

How To Get Healthy Hair??

Girl Try some carrot oil or tea tree oil..Just put it in your hair after each time you wash it..You can get it from the hair store or any vitamin store..It worked for my hair. The oil has so many nutrients in it for your hair to be healthy too!!

How To Get Healthy Hair??

try redken's extreme shampoo and conditioner...its a miracle...it helps damaged hair.

How To Get Healthy Hair??

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Use a teaspoon of every oil and honey,.... a little more if ur hair is long or a little less if ur hair is short

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed, fortify, reconstruct, moisturize, soften %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can also use a conditioner but get a light conditioner that wont wiegh ur hair down, becuz u can over condition, I use herbl essences "clean happy" conditioner.

When I do this at nite, I wake up, shampoo %26amp; condition, rinse and style as usual. Has worked for years

You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

How can make my permed black hair grow long?

I have shoulder length permed african american hair. it grows fast but breaks at root when i stressed leaving me with two inches of hair from 12 inches? i ve been stressed and have a bald small patch.Do you have any tip or products that i can use to prevent breakage and make my hair grow past it's max. length

How can make my permed black hair grow long?

try deep conditioners, and hot oil treatment, and get your ends clipped.. go to www.drmiracles.com i use their products and it has helped my hair grow out the products may be a little expensive but its worth it and i also had stop putting perms in my hair and went natural and started pressing, wrapping and flat ironing my hair and since i have done that my hair has grew out so much that i dont think that i would ever go back to a perm

How can make my permed black hair grow long?

I would advise you to strip the perm from your hair as soon as possible. You also need scalp treatment externally and internal cleaning to get the toxins out of your system like detox. Then you need to put together a stress release plan to help you deal with your stress. Don't forget to drink plenty of water. I have had locks for over 5 years and my diet and stress levels are important to the growth and health of them. You should get braids to grow your hair back, but make sure you hair can handle braids because if you scalp is tender the braids can cause a problem. I is so important for you to take care of yourself from the inside and it will reveal on the outside. Good Luck.

How can make my permed black hair grow long?

im black my self and i suggest that u take vitamin- trust me your hair will grow like crazy, try these:

-GNC Ultra Nourishair-a multivitamin thats good for ur hair, skin and nails, with 23 essiental vitamins

-Omega 3 6 9- a fatty acid thats good for hair, skin, n nails, will moisturize ur skin n scalp.

-MSM powder-a sulfur that will boost ur hair growth n stop any acne or bemishes that u may have, good for jionts n muscles n will give u energy

-Cysteine- another source of sulfur that will thicken ur hair by widening the diameter of the hair shaft, n cause increase hair growth

trust me these things work- if u dont believe me go look it up on google like i did.

But along with vitamins u also have to take better care of your own hair, like perm ur hair less-every 2-3 months is not good for ur hair, u should perm every 6 months, also moisturize ur hair n scalp 2x every other day with a good "grease" that does NOT contain patroleum or mineral oil, deep treat ur hair every 2weeks or every month to maintain breakage. use less heat on ur hair, use less stress-such as combing/pulling hair to hard-dont EVER BRUSH UR HAIR-brushing black hair is not good at all.

i also suggest that u visit and JOIN these too web sites.

Your hair brekage is probably due to your relaxers. Try doing this to stop the breakage:

1) Clarify your hair. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.a... Most brands make clarifying shampoos.

2)Use a deep conditioning protein treatment. I recommend Aphogee http://www.aphogee.com/products.cfm (to be used every six weeks) I also know of Redken CAT, Aubrey Organics GPB, Joico K Pak, and Nexxus Emergencee

3)Deep condition with moisture. Use Lanza Kukui Nut, Organics Root Stimulator Replenishing Pak, Nexxus Humectress, Neutrogena Mask, or Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner

3)Mix 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar with 3 cups water. Pour onto hair. Rinse until you can no longer smell it.

(this is the answer I usually give to those who ask to grow relaxed hair)

To grow hair:

Relaxed hair is almost always damaged, especially if you relax it monthly. First of all, keep your hair moisturized. This is as simple as wetting it in the shower, or wetting your hands and running them through your hair. DO NOT buy any moisturizer that has MINERAL OIL or PETROLATUM! care free curl gold and s-curl are popular moisturizers. Do NOT use that Pink lotion!

2)use a wide tooth comb(once a day or less)to avoid hairs breaking.

3)Wash your hair at least once a week with shampoo. I wash mine with JUST conditioner sometimes too.

4)after shampooing, DEEP CONDITION by putting conditioner on your hair and putting a plastic cap over it and leaving it on for 15-30 minutes

5)massage your scalp daily

6)do not put any oils or "grease" on your scalp. Same goes with hair just for the sake of oiling your hair. Their are however topical treatments that you can put on your scalp if they contain something like Indian herbs or sulfur.

7)Try to relax your hair less. Every 8-10 weeks or longer!

8)You know your hair is breaking because if you look on the ends you will not see a white bulb. If you DO see a withe thing on the end, that is just shed hair. You shed several hairs a day, so it's all good. If it IS broken hair and you are getting a lot of it frequently, do a protein treatment (use Organic Roots Stimulator mayonaisse or Aphogee 2 minute)

9)Try to put your hair up. Or protect your hair by leaving it in braids. DO NOT LEAVE BRAIDS IN TOO LONG or you will loose your hairline! growafrohairlong.com has a great regime for braids

10)Do not limit your hair care products to the "ethnic" section of walmart. A lot of that stuff is crappy.

Whats the purpose of saran wrap on your hair??

What is the purpose of using saran wrap on hair?

I have african american hair. after my stylists removed my hair rollers, she wraps my hair, and then places saran wrap around it. then i sit under the dryer for a few more minutes.

Also what setting should the dryer be and how long should i remain under the dryer with the saran wrap? thanks

Whats the purpose of saran wrap on your hair??

The reason for the saran wrap is because it keeps the heat in your hair, so your hair keeps it's shape. It's the same reason why stylists put tin foil on your hair when you get highlights or dye your hair- because the heat makes your hair change color faster.Im not sure what setting he dryer should be on, but you should remain under the dryer for 5-10 minutes.

Whats the purpose of saran wrap on your hair??

This is called a feather wrap...there really popular in Baltimore. Report It

Whats the purpose of saran wrap on your hair??

To get the moisture back in your hair.

Whats the purpose of saran wrap on your hair??

to keep your brain fresh for the aliens.

Whats the purpose of saran wrap on your hair??

The scran wrap helps to make more heat in your hair and it helps the hair follicals to keep there curl better the more heat you have the better to keep the curl. I think that with the dryer it all depends on your hair type but you dont want to fry it off so once you see that it is dry get out.

Whats the purpose of saran wrap on your hair??

Saran wrap traps the heat, it should help set the style and soften the hair. set the dryer on a low warm setting for at least 10 minutes

Professional Hair Dye?? Help a girl out..?

What brand do stylist use on African American hair??

When you go can you ask for it(the dye)?!

Professional Hair Dye?? Help a girl out..?

its going to depend on the salon. at my salon, we use Matrix on everyones hair, and it comes out great on african americans. but, each salon carries theyre own brand of color. they choose what line they like and thats what they have available. so, if you want a specific brand, youd have to call around and find out who carries that brand. but, stylists are trained to work on all types of hair, and hair dye is made to work on all types. maybe ask for a semi or demi permanent as they are less damaging. but, as far as a brand goes, you can use just about anything. just go to a good stylist in a good salon and theyll know how to handle your hair.

I am looking for a Black hair stylist in Toronto?

I have Black (African American) hair and I desperately need a hair stylist in the Toronto (or North York, Scarborough) area. My problem is I don't want to go to a unisex salon where there are barbers in the front and the hairdressers in the back- I would rather go to a salon with hairdressers only. Does anyone know of a place like this??? Most hairdressing salons cater to straight hair only...

I am looking for a Black hair stylist in Toronto?

Hair 2, Azan's, Hairdome are all black hairdressing salons. No barber's in the front...

I am looking for a Black hair stylist in Toronto?

Look through the yellow pages for black hairdressers. If you're in north york go to either Jane and Finch or Jane and Sheppard. They have many black hairdressers there. Scarbrough usually had a lot as well. You'll have to go to a prodominately "black" area to find a good hairdresser for your type of hair. Good luck!

I heard PROTEIN makes hair stronger & grow faster...is this true?? ...if so, What foods have lot

I cut my hair 3 weeks ago and miss it all ready. (I have African American hair).

I heard PROTEIN makes hair stronger %26amp; grow faster...is this true?? ...if so, What foods have lots of Protein?

Yes it's true. Food rich in protein and vitamin A are good for hair. Some good sources of protein are Milk, Cheese, fish, lentils, nuts, Egg yolk, Pulses, Soya beans.

Good sources of Vitamin A are Papaya, cabbage, Milk, Peaches, Apricot,Carrots, eggs, liver and green vegetables.

I'm not trying to be sick but man goo has the most protein.

I heard PROTEIN makes hair stronger %26amp; grow faster...is this true?? ...if so, What foods have lots of Protein?

Man goo? Ughhhhhh, nooooooooooot such a good idea...

Yes, hair does grow with a diet of proteins. Proteins contain Amino Acids, and Sulfer... Sulfer is found in hair strands. Do have proteins, eat lots of meat, including Chicken, Beef, Pork, etc, and you have your eggs too. Peanuts and other forms of nuts are your source of proteins. Beans too have proteins. You will see that your body will also be served well. :)

Is it good for a black girl 2 scrunch they're hair? Black is known 2 b sensitive 2 sum products

I was just wondering because African American hair is more sensitive than other races. I have long hair and was wondering if it would b good 2 do for my hair. Also washing hair everyday could damage our hair so could certain hair products. Lemme know Thanks!

Is it good for a black girl 2 scrunch they're hair? Black is known 2 b sensitive 2 sum products.?

Because of the length of your hair...it's a bad idea...unless you want major breakage. In all honesty all regular hair gels that black girls use are bad for you hair....that's why some folks are switching over to pomades and creams that hold...check out Garnier line of putty and cream gel..it works for some folks and for some it doesnt....now as for the scrunching...if you want that effect..something that would last you know...for a week or so at a time.....try something else..like wearing a braid out or a twist out. Those styles look just as nice..and last a minute...without doing damage. Using a crimping iron or curling iron is cool too but you'd have to get something to keep the curl pattern (spritz hairspray) which some of those are damaging too...check out the websites below for instructions on that...and washing your hair everyday is unneccessary and drying due to sulfates in the shampoo and particles in water....once a week..with conditioning and deep conditioning every other week is best..and maybe a clarifying shampoo wash once a month....

Is it good for a black girl 2 scrunch they're hair? Black is known 2 b sensitive 2 sum products.?

I think it would be okay. If you don't want to use any fancy products you could just use gel. This works nicely and I don't think it would do any damage to your hair.

Is it good for a black girl 2 scrunch they're hair? Black is known 2 b sensitive 2 sum products.?

hell naw it can even be bad for white peoples hair, they use that hard as.s gel, and they have to wash it out, if i washed my hair everyday i would have no hair, my hair is getting long ive been working at it, and doing that wont help it. gel wont help our hair at all

if u get relaxers you could try it i guess, but i flat iron my hair so it wouldnt work. also if you wanna wear your hair wavy why not buy a crimper/waver. i must admit though when white girls scrunch their hair it looks cute

Is it good for a black girl 2 scrunch they're hair? Black is known 2 b sensitive 2 sum products.?

Just like how african americans' skin colors vary so does the textures of our hair. While some african americans can use gels, mousses, spritz, and hair sprays and have no problem, others cannot because those products contain water based solutions.

If your hair can stand the process of being "scrunched" without becoming dry or breaking, then knock yourself out. It's you hair do what you please.

Is it good for a black girl 2 scrunch they're hair? Black is known 2 b sensitive 2 sum products.?

tina is right hard gel ruins anyone hair. i known people who scrunch their hair now they ended up with damaged hair

Why do we "proud" Black parents teach our kids such nonsense as "Bad hair" and &

As a parent of a 3/4 Black and 1/4 Hispanic child, her hair is coiled tighter than mine...and it's beautiful! I just can't stand to hear Black people use the phrase "Bad hair" to define African American hair and "Good hair" to define hair with a more straightened texture. Can we please stop brainwashing our Black children with this backwords thinking? Time to start telling them how gorgeous their hair, skin and features are so when they're older, they can look in the mirror and see something admirable, not ugly.

Why do we "proud" Black parents teach our kids such nonsense as "Bad hair" and "Good hair"???

I agree with you. This goes back to the mentality of whatever is related to "black", it's bad. For years we even went through the whole skin tone fight where lighter blacks were supposed to be better than darker blacks in some way. As being as light-skinned black woman I even used to get into fights in school about how light I was and was told that i wasn't black. And let me say I love my nappy hair. I haven't had a relaxer for about 6 or 7 months. As a woman with a daughter myself, I believe we need to redefine what is beautiful or the whole skin and hair thing is going to persist. Thank you for allowing me the chance to express my thoughts.

Why do we "proud" Black parents teach our kids such nonsense as "Bad hair" and "Good hair"???

Madame I have seen the plight in the black community and hair is minute compared to some of the more life threatening situations such as education, unemployment for the men and women, poverty, violence, hunger.

Dont call this racist but some people need to wake up a smell the coffee. God bless you and yours.

Why do we "proud" Black parents teach our kids such nonsense as "Bad hair" and "Good hair"???

I'm sure the asker is well aware of the other problems in the black community. 99% of the questions asked on here are not as important as other issues in the world but i bet they got some kind of answer besides a veiled racist response.

To answer the actual question, the "bad hair" thing goes back to when the standard of beauty in this country was 100% based on caucasiion ideals. there were no black glamorous women. All of the early black female stars of any kind had to achieve a look reminiscent of white women to be seen as beautiful. Even to get a job, a woman stood a better chance if her hair was closer to that of white women. Hence, it was "good". Like a lot of bad habits and traditions, these things get handed down for generations even if the original meanings is lost.

Hopefully we will move past this and work on more serious issues. Unfortunately many of the things mentioned are related to this issue because it comes down to a a matter of pride. Until we TRULY judge our standards of beauty as sometjhing other than a comparison of white people, we will continue to use these outdated terms.

When it's dry and I'm combing through, that's when it sheds a lot. I keep my ends trimmed. No problems after that. Is there any shampoo/conditioner I could use to decrease the breakage when I wash my hair.

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

Girl i know what you talking about. i just had to cut some of me hair off cause of split end. So what i start using is Pantene Pro-v woman of color. They make this Breakage Defense line that works great. i use the Deep conditioning mask after i shampoo and let it set on my hair for about 15 mins under the blow dryer then wash it out. And for your hair being dry try using Olive Oil. the name is Organic Root Stimulator you can get this from Walmart Walgreen's. its a organic moisturizer that leaves your hair feeling great and not to oily. I put this on before i blow dry. and make sure that you put oil or something on your hair before you blow dry. cause heat can also make your hair dry.

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

GO TO A DOCTOR

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

yes there is the shampoo and conditioner is called pantene and it helped my hair grow and it decreased the breakages !I'm also african american

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

hair sheds all the time during seasons so you shouldn't worry too much

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

Hi I'm of African descent too. Is your hair "relaxed"? Mine is and I'm having the saem problem as you. My hair is sheading. There are different ways to help that.

1st how often do you wash your hair? The more often you wash it is the more it's gonna shed. You should wash your hair once a week. If you can do it every other week thats even better.

2nd- try using 'Organics' Olive Oil hair moituriser. It's hard to find but it's amazing

3rd- I use Iso Plus 'Natural Remedy Cucumber Hair Massage' as a grease and it's specifically for breaking hair.

4th- Steam/Hot Oil treat your hair every time you wash it. This helps for breakage protection and Thickness

5th- try massaging your hair with a misture of 2Tbs of olive oil and 2Tbs of castor oil for 20minutes

6th- Buy tablets called 'Perfecture' they're GREAT for hair problems and even help with your skin and nails

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

i'm sorry thats neaver happened to any of myfriends so all i can tell you is that go to a hair stilylest like in sant losi mo or however you spell it i don't live there i like 500 miles a way and i go there to get my hair done

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

dont dry it so mush with hot air it can damaged yr hair after over long term

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

Well there is special shampoos. maybe your hair is to drie.

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

I'm African American and the reason it breaks is that you are combing your hair while it doesn't have any grease in it, and your hair can also break if you use a blow dryer that has a comb at the end of the dryer.

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

go to a hairdresser to get some mositure treatments, ur hair sounds wayyyy too dry!

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

i hope that you are not using Motions produsts because they are the worst trust me. A really good hair car line is the one with tea tree oil or olive oil i believe it is called Organics. You might need to change shampoos or talk to a beautician. What you eat and how you take care of yourself has alot to do with your hair too. Hope i helped. Also use some moisterizer to keep it from getting too dry like pink oil or something. Start using hot oil treatments. If none of the above work then consult with a professional.

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

Leave in hair conditioners or conditioners that stay in for at least 30 minutes are good for the hair. Also using products with Olive Oil, Hair Mayonaisse, Aloe Vera or Jojoba are also good for the hair.

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

Dove Shampoo and Conditioner for "dry hair" can help you with that. Don楹搕 use the hair dryer, it will only make things worse in your case... the hair DRYER makes your hair look even dryer...

instead look for a good Hair Oil (Wella have good ones), use it on your wet hair after you wash it.. that will work .. I hope!

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

I used to have the same problem but I find Redkin anti-snap works wonder. Also KeraCare conditioner is very good. Can't live without Redin anti-snap (put it in after washing and conditioning hair.).

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

African American hair tends to be on the dry side IF the hair is coarse and/or thick. This is because oils that naturally moisturize the ends take a longer time to reach the ends of the hair because of the coil of the strand. Chemicals such as relaxer and color as well as excessive heat don't help either. Now shedding is natural but if the strands are short and chipped looking that is a bad sign. Using a product with a healthy protein such as keratin and a good balance of moisture will help a lot. Keeping up your trims and staying away from too much heat and chemicals helps as well. A great product that you will see a difference right away is Moisture and Strength By NIOXIN. The product is marketed for baldness but trust me it will work miracles. WOW OIL DOESN'T SOLVE EVERYTHING. OIL doesn't penetrate the hair shaft and really doesn't repair the hair. It makes it soft but it will STILL be Damaged. Oil also leaves a serious buildup and is especially bad if you wash every 2 weeks. Remember that oil and product Will settle on the scalp throughout the day and at night clogging your follicle and CAN lead to BALDNESS.

Hi, I'm african american. When I wash my hair it breaks. I usually roller set and go under a hair dryer. .

dont blow dry it un-oiled.

How do i get hair with motion?

i have relaxed african american hair and i've been looking all over to find something that will get my hair to be like i got it out of the salon. idk what other way to put it but like "white ppl" not racist though. i've tried straightening and putting alot of oils in it so it'll be heavy and stay flat all day instead of it flying out and looking poofy. i just want it flat and like heavy enough to move around when i turn my head and stuff w/out paying so much all the time. help!

How do i get hair with motion?

u need to ask ur salon what they use or what there methods are.........

How do i get hair with motion?

Straighten or curl your hair and then hairspray the underside of it. Like Flip your hair and spray a good amount. It works great for my friend who has similar hair.

Good luck. =]

Would it be ok to put highlights in my already semi-permanent dyed hair? if not, why, can i do this

I really want to add highlights to my hair. I had previously dyed my natural, sandy brown, hair color to a black/blue color. my hair has faded quite a bit and is about 2 to 3 shades away from my natural color. should I just wait until all of the color is gone or could i still highlight my hair myself right now? I'm looking to highlight it a honey blonde color and I have african american hair. My hair is already in good condition with no breakage that I can see. I'm really trying to avoid a hair salon, thanks!!

Would it be ok to put highlights in my already semi-permanent dyed hair? if not, why, can i do this at home?

If you can place the highlights on yourself with bleach mixed with 20 volume developer wrapped in foils then process with heat to the level of lightness you want then you wash out the bleach and you will probably want to tone it down with a semi permanent honey blond color. If you think you are able to do all that then go ahead and give it a try, I know I would want someone else to place the foils on for me and I'm a professional! Good Luck!!!

Would it be ok to put highlights in my already semi-permanent dyed hair? if not, why, can i do this at home?

Highlights are a lot harder than dying your whole head a color. Try using the dyes that wash out before committing to a dyi highlight job. That way you can see how it would look before you go permanent.

Would it be ok to put highlights in my already semi-permanent dyed hair? if not, why, can i do this at home?

You can lighten but you must use a bleach or other color remover. The choices in a public beauty supply are not the best. Hair color will not lift out hair color with the results you expect if at all. Here are the problems you are going to be left with highlights that have two different levels and tones. You would have to mix two different strength lighteners and apply to the appropriate areas and then adjust with toner. This is not something you should be attempting. Find a salon in your budget that works with African American hair. You sound like you have nice hair- keep it that way!

Would it be ok to put highlights in my already semi-permanent dyed hair? if not, why, can i do this at home?

The thing about at-home color is that it's really unpredictable. There's a reason salons charge more than $10 for a dye job, and it's not just because the salon costs more to run. I'd use a color-stripping shampoo (clarifying shampoo) until the color fades a bit more and then maybe try the home highlights if you're not concerned with possible consequences. It could turn out, but you never really know. Highlighting is bleaching so expect your hair to be super damaged and hard to comb.. been there, done that.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

what can i use to make my hair grow faster? anything will do.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

Wash your hair more often, like once or twice a week and condition it often, like three nights out of the week use a moisturizing conditioner and every week and a half use a protein conditioner, there is one by Soft Sheen, its called HI-Protech Reconstructor. I swear by it, totally love it. Don't use hair grease, anything that contains petroleum or mineral oil is bad for your hair, these ingredients contain no beneficial properties and will clog the pores and keep hair from growing and can cause thinning. I use water based oil lotions and creams, I use oils, like olive oil and almond oil, sometimes I mix them with rosemary oil, which has been proven to stimulate the folicles and can contribute to hair growth. Black hair needs moisture and strength, you get these by drinking lots of water, taking the right kind of vitamins, like one specifically for hair skin and nail, and a vitamin e to sustain moisture, and a biotin to support hair structure. Don't use cheap shampoos that will dry out the hair, even if they claim to be moisturizing, they aren't, they contain cheap detergents that strip the hair of moisture then the conditioning agents are synthetic so they don't hold, I've found that the best shampoo for my hair is Creme of Nature, and conditioner is Un-Damaged Goods. Wear a fitted satin cap before going to bed at night, if you wear weaves these can cause breakage, anything that causes stress on the hair can break it off. My hair is nearly mid back length after cutting it to less than two inches long about a year and a half ago. I rarely comb it, I leave it in a few fat braids and leave it under a cap and wig when I go out, I use the crown and glory technique to keep my hair strong and shiny. I do not take all of the advice on that site, but some of it I have found to be helpful, like I will not use a lye based relaxer

http://www.growafrohairlong.com/crownand...

there is a black hair care forum

http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/default....

that you can join, I love their advice.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

try with vitamines you hair is verry brittle so moisturize it a lot and get chemical treatments done by a professional only that will be the key to healthy hair....

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

use doo gro it works WONDERS for your hair. im mixed spanish black and white but i have family members that are fully african and they always recomend doo gro. whenmy cousin burnt her lil sisters hair and it broke off she just used doo gro on it for a couple moths and it grew faster than it ever had before. i HIGHLy recommend you go out and buy some doo gro.. its affordable and works great

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

My stylist advised me to use a clarifying shampoo (wash until squeaky clean). Condition for at least 30min after washing (if you have a hooded dryer put a plastic cap on and sit under that while conditioning). Take it easy on relaxers (try to go 6-8wks between applications-if you do),no color at all if possible (the peroxides will slow you down due to drying out), easy on hairstyles that require a lot of heat you may want to try pin ups or roller set styles for a few months and most importantly keep a trim every 4-6wks (split ends will slow you down too). I started with less than an inch of hair and with in 12-16 months it grew out about 8" (at least neck/shoulder length). I use aveda products to keep it shiny and healthy looking stay away from alcohol based products like spritz and holding spays-they cause breakage.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

If you have natural hair you can be amazed by the results you will get when you allow your hair to do what Mother Nature intended for it to do; GROW!

I am not saying for a second that you shouldn't get your hair done up the way you want; because I am coming to you as a sister that has not wore any chemicals in my hair for fourteen years. I am now 27.

The other lady who answered also was right about washing your hair with non brand products. IT WILL DESTROY YOUR NATURAL CELLS IN YOUR HAIR!!!

For instance, I have been using Doo Gro for the last six or so years. You should use the same product regularly. You can even give your hair dresser the shampoo you use when you're getting your hair washed. Changing your products often will show the results in your hair.

Again, if you are a natural hair sister you can rock box braids; cornbraids, weaves and/ or wigs..And still look better than what you thought would actually would. I keep my hair up to standards that I make.

I can tell you the honest truth I love my THICK AND NAPPY HAIR! My sister use to always do my hair; she got tired because of how thick and course it is; so I started going back to the beauty palor.

The funny part is when I first went to (my regular) hair dresser to tell her I wanted box braids. She told me 80 bucks so I said ok; the thing is I new she didn't realize how thick my hair really was.

Girl, when she blowed out my hair she looked and started speaking to her friend in their language. When she finished my hair it was 11pm; (I got there about 430 /500pm) She said the next time you come back it's going to be 100 dollars and I laughed; but I always go back.

Like this weekend I got a touch up but that was only 50 dollars but i always give her tips; they are my people and they have my hair laced all the time. I live in PA now I will go all the way back to Brooklyn, NY to get my hair done by them.

There is no fast way of growing your hair; but it takes patience and love of your hair that you have to show it. I LOVE MY NAPPY HAIR!

Anything will not just do; because its your hair that you must know. Is it soft or course? Is it long or short? You have to look at the changes your hair developes. If you wearing a perm or wearing the natural look. Don't damage your hair before you get the chance to see the true naturer of your hair. And also go on line and look up things on natural hair or if you are a perm wearer do the same.

Peace and Blessings..

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

well you can make sure your ends are cut every week or two and try not to use different chemicals and dont wash it so much maybe every week but not evertday.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

I am a fully African-American like you and I have long, thick and still growing hair all because of Mane 'n Tail conditioner.Boy does it work miracles on my hair.Check out www.maneandtail.com or go to Walgreen's were they are sold.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

I've heard there is some vitamins that you can take.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

Keep direct heat off the hair ( stop blow drying all the time, and using hot curlers). Try to go under a dryer with body rollers and always use a good conditioner in your hair.

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

use what they said

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

What a load of pants some people write.

There is nothing on sale anywhere that will make your hair grow faster. People can talk so much rubbish.

Look after your hair, eat well and get a regular trim. That is IT.

Hair grows about 1/2 inch every month... Healthy diet, vitamins...Scalp massage will help stimulate gland underneath the skin. Other than that you will have to be patient..

I'm african american and i need my hair to grow!!??

Tee Tree Oil will do the trick. You can also use Coconut Oil..Sulphur 8.. DAX.. or other organic greases and treatments. Your hair will grow no faster than it does sista. There is no miracle growth solution. These products will help though. And no... cutting your ends won't help either...

Please help I have an argent hair question !!!!!?

I go swimming at least three times a week and my hair has become very thick I wondering if its okay to put a perm in my hair so people tell me its very damaging but im not sure if they are right. anyone who knows about african american hair is welcome to help me solve this problem

Please help I have an argent hair question !!!!!?

Your hair may be feeling 'thicker' due to chlorine damage. Put a protective layer on your hair, e.g. conditioner %26amp; wear a swim cap, then wash in gentle DILUTED shampoo %26amp; use the best conditioner - either one that suits your hair best - or the most expensive.

It should be okay to swim immediately after the perm as all chemicals should/must be removed for the perm to 'hold'. If you're worried about this, just shampoo before hand, %26amp; leave the conditioner in without rinsing %26amp; put a swim cap on. Good luck!

Please help I have an argent hair question !!!!!?

First off I would wait before swimming atleast a week after perming, to make sure you have got the chemical completely out of your hair. Chlorine and the chemical for a perm do not mix well. Yes perm and Dyes damage your hair, but as long you keep it trimmed once a month and don't blow dry too much, and just take good care of it. DOn't use hair spray or mouse a lot. It should be okay.

Please help I have an argent hair question !!!!!?

I think perming is ok aslong as you wair (cringe!) a hair net while swimming and then wash it properly with a good shampoo and conditoner and by the way dont go for flashy brands of conditoner they just have plastic in them that coat your hair in it

ok and african american hair is lush Im jelous i just have blonde hair but my best mate is carabean ! bye!

Please help I have an argent hair question !!!!!?

well I do have a child that requires speacial hair needs.and a perm is safe as long you have it done with a professional, never home perm,it will burn your hair up.african american hair does great, with the right perm,we've come along way in the hair care.

Please help I have an argent hair question !!!!!?

well im not african american but...

i dont think it would be in your best interest to get a perm.

How to achieve this kinky curly hair look?

Hi I have very frizzy and kinky African-American hair.

Anyone know any products that can be used in the hair to DEFINE the curls?

Preferably a product from a beauty supply store, or Target/Walmart/Walgreens etc.

thanks

How to achieve this kinky curly hair look?

Well, it truly depends on the texture of your hair. If you have some wave to your hair, then that look won't be hard to pull off. If not, then you'll spend a lot of money and time trying to get it and never get it. I think Biosilk is a good product too. Also try TIGI Curls Rock. It's pretty thick (thicker than Biosilk) which is good for thicker hair. Make sure to wash and deep condition with a product that moisturizes your hair. Curls love moisture and product! Oh yeah, make sure to use a leave in conditioner too...after shampoo and condition, before styling product.

How to achieve this kinky curly hair look?

omg that girl is so pretty and she has clear armpits with no shadow!!!!!!!

ANYWAY

Garnier Fructis products work, my mother uses it (she's African-American)

And make sure you put some get on it first, then use mousse to scrunch it out and make the curls

How to achieve this kinky curly hair look?

Ooh, that's cool. I have kinky curly hair too, but not that kinky. You could try taking this photo to a stylist and have her cut it like that for you if its not already.

It looked like the girl in the picture side-parted her hair. maybe you could try that.

You should buy a serum for your hair. I like John Frieda's. He's excellent. You put it in when it's wet or damp and then either blow dry it or let it air dry. I also like his Secret Weapon. Its like this thick, creamy stuff you put on your hair when its dry. It lives up to its name. It's awesome. Good Luck, fellow curlygirl.

BTW, you can find John's stuff at any one of the places you mentioned, but it'd probably be cheaper at Walmart. Hey the girl above me stole my Avatar. You kinda look like me too. :(

How to achieve this kinky curly hair look?

Practically every maker of hair products offers curl enhancers. Nexxus, Redken, Tigi. There are also some non-professional curl enhancers but I have yet to find one that works as well as the professional products. Some of my customers have tried some drugstore products because they are less expensive, but they always come back for the good products because the good ones don't build up on your hair, make it sticky, make it dull, etc.

How to achieve this kinky curly hair look?

it looks very un-cool, u don't need it

My best friend's hair is dry and brittle, I guess from too much coloring, she is Indian?

lives in New York, I was wondering is there good Indian shampoo that she can try for her hair type, the shampoo in America is catered more towards Cocasion and African American hair types

My best friend's hair is dry and brittle, I guess from too much coloring, she is Indian?

Shampoos whether Indian or foreign will not rectify hair that has already damaged. Your friend will have to wait for the hair to live its life. Meanwhile use any one of these shampoos (Any Brand ) - For Dry %26amp; Brittle Hair or For Damaged Hair. Make sure the product is from a good company like Loreal or Dove or any other.

You can also tell your friend to use a High Protein Conditioner after each wash, and also to apply a Leave on Conditioner or better still Hair Moisturizer.

Oil hair the night before shampooing - Olive Oil could be used, it will do wonders for her hair.

If she can bear the smell then have her apply egg yolk on the hair before shampooing Leave on for 15 minutes..

Getting a regular trim would also help.

Do not blow dry hair, towel dry and leave to dry naturally.

My best friend's hair is dry and brittle, I guess from too much coloring, she is Indian?

Are your friend too shy to ask the question in person !!

Use Garnier Fructis Shampoo and Parachute coconut oil.

Apply the oil in the night before going to bed. Shampoo in the morning.

Then apply Garnier Fructis conditioner for five minutes.

Wash with water. Dry hair before making any knot.

Are ashanti's beyonc鐚?s, kelis's and other african american r&b singers ' ha

extensions?

Are ashanti's beyonc鐚?s, kelis's and other african american r%26amp;b singers ' hair fake? i mean are they all

Yes. They all have fake hair--but most white celebrities have fake hair too! They have medium length hair but get very long extensions put in near the back of their head. If they are not extensions then sometimes they are full-out wigs or weaves. If celebrities did not have fake hair, their real hair would be very damaged and overprocessed at such a long length.

You'd be suprised to learn how many facets of a celebrity's appearance are fake. Beyonce, for example, has very long, fake blondish hair. She also bleaches her skin (see source link for a picture of her skin compared to normal African-American skin), and she has had a nose job to thin out her nose and make it appear less ethnic.

no

I don't think so...it looks pretty natural

Don't know about Kelis, but Ashanti and Beyonce both wear extensions. Beyonce doesn't really need to, I don't know about Ashanti, though.

Are ashanti's beyonc鐚?s, kelis's and other african american r%26amp;b singers ' hair fake? i mean are they all

OBVIOUSLY! MOST AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN "ROCK" TRACKS/WEAVE! DUH! MOST CELEBRITY WOMEN AS A WHOLE wear SOME type of hair extensions.

Are ashanti's beyonc鐚?s, kelis's and other african american r%26amp;b singers ' hair fake? i mean are they all

I was told that ashanti's was and that her tracks were sewn into her actuall scalp and ciara's was extensions as well. As far as everyone else's I'm not sure.

Are ashanti's beyonc鐚?s, kelis's and other african american r%26amp;b singers ' hair fake? i mean are they all

YES! GOD YES! All except maybe Kelis nowadays the hair she's rocking is short and cute and I think real but everybody else of course.

Are ashanti's beyonc鐚?s, kelis's and other african american r%26amp;b singers ' hair fake? i mean are they all

nope.

What is a Retexturizer (for your hair)?

I have normal African American hair so its pretty hard to deal with, I was wondering if a retexturizer would make my hair more manageable and would actually make it move.

Would a retexturizer work like if I had a relaxer in it? How damaging is it? Would it be better for me just to get a relaxer? How well would my hair grow if it got retexturized? What really is a retexturizer?

What is a Retexturizer (for your hair)?

Many stylists refer to relaxers and the Japanese straightening systems as "retexturizers." If you are thinking about having this done, you should talk to a hair stylist and find out exactly what this term means to them. Some are more damaging than others, but they also seem to be less likely to revert. It should not effect your hair growth. Sometimes when you use chemical on your hair it seems like it doesn't grow as well, but that's just because you are experiencing breakage from over processing.

I need a new hair cut?

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

What is your response to natural hairstyles (i.e. dreadlocks, afros, etc)? Has anyone treated you different from when you had a relaxer to you now having a natural hair style?

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

I think that natural hairstyles are beautiful on our brothers and sisters. I have gone back and forth over the idea of going natural...(which is so much healthier for our hair, in my opinion), but get this: Its always another sister or brother who belittles the natural hairstyle. When I did wear braids, our other brothers and sisters thought it was SO pretty, but if i bring up the subject of loc's, then brothers and sisters go "Braids are okay sometimes, but locs are so permanant....and besides, it just doesn't Look well-kempt"

Personally, I think that we have gotten so caught up in what society and the fashion industry deems "beautiful", that we try to conform to their idea of beauty instead of what makes us beautiful.

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

People have treated me different since I went natural about 2 yrs ago. For me my natural hair is who, I Am! it grows out this way and why should I constantly have to slap a perm on this to fit in with the world. I DON'T! and I'M NOT! Report It

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

Im a black male with dreadlocks, 6'2" 250. I get respect and i give respect!

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

I had just recently had the relaxer that was in my hair removed. I think people havent judged me from my hair which is naturally soft and straight anyways. I think as long as your hair is presentable and decent looking you will not get eyebrows

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

I think that natural hairstyles belong to my people and I love them. I'm about to get my hair done in dreads right now. I think they're authentic and pure to the African culture. I've never got treaten differently because of my hair.

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

I am gonna have natural hair soon because I am growing my hair out so I haven't had much reaction yet. However I LOVE natural hair. It is so Unique and Versatile. Also it reminds me that there are some people that love their natural selves.

:o)

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

I love them, matter of fact I'm working on it and for Trini-Haitian, what do you mean that your hair is longer than African Americans?

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

Some of the people who responded to me oddly and disapprovingly where other Black people. Perhaps it was scary and too bold of a statement, and one which they could not undertake, to embrace one's natural beauty and "return to your roots" so to speak.

I have locs and find them much easier to maintain than my days of "frying, dyeing and laying it to the side."

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

Yes since i took out my perm and turned it natural people has treated me different. I work with white people so in my industry of work this was really weird for me to do. But they know i work well so they have nothing to say. But the most of the people thought i looked better with natural hair.

African American/Black people and natural hair styles?

I like the natural look. My dad used to have dreadlocks. I used to have mine in braids when I was younger but now I don't have time for that. So I got a mild relaxer just because of time issues. When I got my relaxer for the first time people were like "is that real" because I'm half Indian and Haitian and my hair is longer then an African Americans hair.

I mean that my hair is longer than an African Americans because I'm halif Indian. Most African Americans that I see have shorter hair than me.

P.S. For the person above me dreads is more of a Caribbean hairstyle not African. Most Africans have Afros or braids not dreads.
